Architecture
280 Adelaide St, Brisbane, Qld.
This project was undertaken when working at G H D.
The client purchased the building in its existing condition.
The brief required a total facelift and revitalisation of the ground floor area to deliver a new look and increase the value of the asset.
The design involved a clever use of paint treatment and a redesign of the ground floor street frontage.
A new commercial and retail component was created with a separate entry for office workers.
Bold signage and coloured awnings gave the building a new and fresh face the renovations were completed on budget and on time and delivered a substantial increase in the real estate value far above the money spent.
1911 House Relocations
We were responsible for the 1st removal and relocation of a 1911 house in Brisbane.
We have successfully moved and reestablished over six houses and have a deep understanding of the process.
Many of these were undertaken when working at Devcorp.
In one instance, we were able to achieve two houses onto a single site, saving many hundreds of thousands in land costs.
Arundel Hills Country Club
When working for DEM Queensland, David was lead designer on the team winning the limited design competition for a new multi-million-dollar Country Club building and Health Spa on the Arundel Hills Golf course.
The winning design was developed into an imposing building meticulously detailed to the clients’ particular requirements.
A host of high-tech features were incorporated seamlessly into the very traditional design aesthetic.
The completed building was the recipient of a construction award.
Audi Centre Brisbane, Qld.
This project was completed while working at Cottee Parker Architects.
This was the first of the new Audi Terminal showrooms in Brisbane.
The D A design required substantial redesign to bring the estimated construction cost down to a target budget.
Much work was done to rationalise the design, details and workings of the building but still retain the extremely high standards set by Audi.
Through close collaboration with the builder and with the Audi ‘in-house’ design team the building was successfully completed and signed off by Audi with an approximate 30% saving in construction cost.
Boland St. House, Richmond, Vic.
This house was designed to replace an existing Victorian infill house that was too dilapidated to reasonably restore.
The clients required a large open plan on the ground floor with 3 bedrooms above.
A roof terrace was also added to utilise the city views.
The design maximizers usage of the relatively tight site and has delivered at home that works and feels much larger than it looks.
Byron St – Residential Apartments- Brisbane River
Toohey & To were commissioned to take an existing Development Approval design and increase the saleable area and rationalise the construction costs.
On an extremely tight timeline every unit was redesigned and the building transformed to meet the clients’ strict criteria and quality standard
All aspects were reviewed and transformed from the Basement to the Roof Terraces to deliver a great result for the client
Commercial Hotel, Barcaldine
This project was carried out in conjunction with D Z Architects
The client had originally planned to renovate the existing old timber hotel building as well utilising the two neighbouring shops
Our review revealed the old hotel building posed too many issues with fire, access and acoustics to be financially viable
Our redesign relegated the old hotel to a ‘stage two’ proposal and involved the shop sites becoming a new build 20 room hotel complete with bar and bistro.
The design utilised every inch of the available land and incorporated all parking and back of house requirements essential for hotel operations.
Limited staff numbers in the remote location was also taken into consideration in all aspects of the hotel layout and back of house operations
The design was quickly awarded a Development Approval by the Local Council
Donald Street, Multi Unit Development, Logan, Qld.
The task on this site was to deliver the maximum unit yield under the local council planning rules.
The job was further complicated by the requirement for onsite truck turning, full parking numbers and ‘on grade’ front door access to all ground floor units
The target yield of 17 dwellings was met as were all Council requirements.
